Toby Alexander

Toby Alexander is a music producer and composer based in Brisbane, Australia and has over 15 years of professional experience in the creative industries. Since 2013 he has focussed his attention on music production, composition and piano as his main passions. Toby has worked in a variety of roles including composer, sound designer, orchestrator/arranger, touring/session musician and mixing/recording engineer.

In 2021 Toby arranged strings for the ARIA nominated album (Best Rock Album) Hello My Beautiful World by Holy Holy. The album debuted at #4 on the ARIA Albums Charts, #1 on ARIA Australian Albums Charts and was nominated for J Award Australian Album of the Year (Triple J). Two tracks from the album, How You Been and The Aftergone, placed in the 2021 Triple J Hottest 100. Hello My Beautiful World features sampled strings performed and sequenced by Toby as well as live studio performances of his arrangements by The Letter String Trio.

Bio

In 2022 Toby arranged strings and brass for the Ballet International Gala, a live concert featuring principal dancers from the Royal Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Astana Opera and Queensland Ballet. The inaugural event held at QPAC Playhouse Brisbane, included pieces from Romeo and Juliet, Spartacus and Swan Lake before finishing with a performance by Brisbane alternative rock band Selfish Sons. The last piece of the concert, Heroine - Selfish Sons, was backed by a string and brass arrangement composed and arranged by Toby.

 

In 2008 Toby wrote the music for the premiere production of The Bloody Bride by Hilary Bell (Wolf Lullaby). The play, set in Northern NSW and inspired by Lorca's Blood Wedding, centres on a young couple and the influence a mysterious backpacker has on their relationship.

Currently he plays keyboards for Fresco Kyoto and Jordan Merrick amongst other live acts and bands. He also works as a music producer, composer/arranger, mixing engineer and session musician on various other projects. Toby holds a bachelor degree in Music Technology from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University and a Diploma in Audio Engineering from JMC Academy.
