His arrangements were beautiful, emotive and musical, and the sounds are full, rich and realistic. It's mind-blowing what's possible now.
Toby was also highly professional with all the file wrangling and communication and was always ready and willing to tweak and adjust or take feedback and go in another direction if required.
I couldn't recommend Toby highly enough if you're considering trying strings on a song. Toby's rates make having strings on a song accessible in a way they never were in the past, and it might be that you find just one part that makes a song or section or, like us, you'll fall in love with the whole arrangement. It's so worth trying it out and hearing what's possible.

Toby Alexander is the best of the best. He was recommended to me by several other artists who had employed his talents on various projects, and the horns he came back with for my song ‘My Sister’s Blue Suitcase’ absolutely blew me away!
As a self-produced and independent artist I was concerned about not having the budget for live horn players - but the sounds Toby was able to produce with MIDI were so realistic I didn’t need live players anyway, and what he composed was above and beyond anything I could’ve imagined.
The brief I gave was part old Western funeral dirge, part Mariachi’ and he could not have hit the nail on the head more perfectly! He worked within my budget, was super easy to communicate with and turned my basic ideas into something lush and magical; across the board, I could not be more stoked with my experience working with Toby and can’t wait to work with him again in the future. Hire him for everything! You need him.

I’ve been working with Toby in many capacities since 2013 and am constantly impressed with the quality of his output. He consistently demonstrates strong musical and technological ability, while remaining sensitive to the music he’s working on.
My favourite thing about Toby’s work is that he will always understand the aesthetic direction of a project regardless of his role. Whether it’s string or horn arranging, co-writing, or as a session keyboard player, his knowledge of instruments and sounds are a valuable asset to any project.

Toby did such an incredible job with strings on my album Girlhood. His arrangements added depth, drama and built perfectly on the emotions we were trying to convey on the songs.

The opening track 'Getting Better' is my favourite of the work Toby did for this album. We sent over a brief for what we were imagining and Toby totally knocked it out of the park with the dramatic, orchestral intro and his opinions on adding strings throughout the song pulled the whole song together.
